Master Class in Design Thinking for Startups

On May 13-15, as part of the Curiosity Maker Space project, we conducted an intensive course in design thinking for startups (with a speaker from Kazakhstan).

Design thinking is an innovation creation technique that helps startups find and quickly test ideas. Design thinking is vital for startups in order to develop new products aimed at solving problems and “pain” of the target audience.

The basis of the design thinking methodology (invented at Stanford University) is always human (Human-Centered Design). In the course, participants will learn to find out what people need “here and now”, learn to “turn” problems into opportunities. On the experience of own project, they will pass all 5 stages of design thinking.

The course program consists of 3 parts:

— Learn the basics of design thinking. What does the design have to do with it? How to come up with non-standard ideas? How to develop critical thinking (+ homework)

— We study and research the audiences we want to help. How to conduct surveys and interviews? How to read survey data? How to identify the “pain” of customers in the flow of information? (+ homework)

— We work in groups, come up with solutions and make prototypes. We are working on solving cases of participants in master classes

On the 1st day of the workshop, empathy and a detailed study of the portrait of consumer were discussed.

On the 2nd day of the master class, our speaker, Julia Dmitrieva, continued to talk about design thinking and together we sorted out the cases of several projects.

For 3 days, the teams learned to understand the problems of a target audience, think critically, put themselves in the shoes of customers, offer working solutions to problems, observe and interview.

Learned the principles and stages of design thinking.

We thank our speaker and all the active participants in the master class!
